I bought the new 2009 Mac Mini. I was interested in getting an energy efficient computer and I liked that it used the new DDR3 1066 memory. I had the Mini for 1 week until I felt overwhelmed to upgrade it. I upgraded from the standard 1 gig of ram to 4 gigs and I also put in a Western Digital 160gb 7,200 rpm drive with 16 mb cache. The mini is still desperately slow compared to my other home PC. My other pc I built for only $200 and I have about $1,400 tied up in my Mac Mini already with having to upgrade, Mac keyboard, special mouse, 22″ monitor (since Apple uses it own special DVI, thanks alot). My other computer is only a 2.0 ghz AMD cheapo chip with only 2 gigs of ram. My other computer smokes every single little thing about this Mac Mini. Granted this Mac Mini is faster than my Apple PowerMac Dual G5 that I upgraded from (that Mac was a total DOG and the worst $900 I ever spent). I am just unimpressed with this Mac, and all of my Apple products to tell you the truth. My kids have yet to use Leopard, except for Garage Band, because they say that the Mac side is too slow to have any fun on. I think this is the last time that I drag my teeth with getting Apple products. I have also had a horrible experience with Mac support with my son’s Ipod 2 years ago. I bought the Mac so that my kids will have the experience of both machines. I am very pleased that at least I have Vista Ultimate on my Mac. This way the computer can at least accomplish some of its intended tasks.

In closing. Be smart…don’t waste your money on Apple. You get faster products with better support and that work much better despite what the commercials say with regular PC’s. This is my last Apple product, and this time I mean it.

All the promotional materials say “you can use just about any monitor and keyboard with your Mac Mini” . . . Don’t you believe it. If your monitor and keyboard are not brand new, the cables are not compatible with the Mini. You might as well try to plug it into your washing machine. It’s not easy to figure out what cable you need, or to find it once you get it figured out (Staples doesn’t sell it, Amazon doesn’t sell it). It shouldn’t take this much effort to get a new product to work.

I heard MAC was suppose to be the superior computer so I made the leap and purchased this MAC Mini with high expectations. When it arrived from Amazon I quickly set it up and when I turned it on it did not boot up! In fact it did nothing at all. I called Apple and spoke to a woman who was no help at all. Another person then came on the phone and we went through a series of things which proved to be fruitless. He said to send it back to Amazon for it sounds defective. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes.

Amazon was great! I sent it back and they promptly sent a new one. Again I set it up and to my complete disgust it did not work!!! I called MAC again and spoke to Darrel who told me to take it to an authorized dealer.

Living in Pittsburgh, PA, I took it to MAC Outfitters in Oxford Center The woman was very nice. The technician was not in. I was able to pick it up today. I was thrilled to finallyget it. Unpacking the MAC I discovered the monitor adapter was missing. I called Mac Outfitters and was told the technician was out and would call me back. When he did I expalined the situation and he denied having it. He said I could come in and pick one up. How generous! So it is now June 22 and I have not been able to use the Mac Mini since June 16. So far I am not impressed with MAC! Once I get the adapter and if the computer works I will be actually be able to review this product!

I bought this computer after owning PC’s since thier inception. Before that I learned on an IBM 5100. For 25 years I wanted an Apple. I always built my PC’s for cheap but Apples seemed so easy-so elegant.

It is just a cover, folks. Like cheap veneer covering fiberboard. The Apple, after one week, upgraded itself with a newer browser (4.0 Safari). After this any web page with Flash content (just about all of them) crash the system. Now I call Apple and they say,”we are showing a blank beside purhase date so you must send proof-of-purchase for assistance.” That is Bull. If Amazon is an authorized seller, THEY should contact the seller. I registered my machine. Period. Secondly, I am not the only one having this problem. The arrogant pissant I got on the phone with quickly said,” maybe it is a problem with Adobe Flash and we don’t make it, sir.” I really hate being talked to by some punk telling me what I already know plus trying instantly to blame someone else before knowing the facts. He wanted a proof-of-purchase or no help. Period. And I’ve had it for three weeks. Way to go, Apple. I’ve got an expensive doorstop until the Flash problem is solved. Guess I’ll have to do it myself. On second thought, I think I’ll return this crappy doorstop and buy a fully-loaded PC. I deserve a break. Remember. As things are now, you can’t use youtube, Yahoo, Amazon or most any other site without disabling the flash player. If you don’t use the internet this might be the system for you.

epilogue- 1 month later and I called Apple again and a nice girl named Molly helped. She said,” well, reload everything and go from there. I did (took about three hours) and it worked. That hardly deserves a reward- that is what it was supposed to do. Plus I have to keep telling it to NOT upgrade the operating system. This Flash problem is common with Apple OSX and I have yet to see a clear explanation. I am staying with Flash 9 until Apple and Adobe are on the same page. I gave this computer a lousy rating for service and as well I should. I buy it from Amazon and Apple won’t honor the warranty until I deliver into their hands the receipt. That is crap from a company that closely guards who can sell their hardware. I tried to get an Apple dealership in 1990. I flew to Cincinnati and spoke with their people. Very smug. It would have cost me over $1,000,000 to get it up and running before I could sell a printer cable.

If the Apple is to stay shiny they at LEAST better honor warranties and not put the onus of “proof” on the customer but on their “reseller network”. PERIOD!

I received my Mac Mini today and hooked everything up except for the monitor. Seriously, the Mac Mini does not have an adapter that my MacBook Air has, that my MacBook Pro has, that allows you to connect the Mini to your monitor.

I can’t believe it. So I now have to order a specialty cable that costs $34.00 but does not guarantee the video performance that the Mini has with its next generation video card!

Not only that but it takes 3 to 4 business days to ship!

On top of ALL that the adapter that they did give you is literally 5″ long and would not have connected to the monitor without the Mini dangling from the monitor.

I just don’t understand. Now check this out; you would think that all you would have to do was to use the adapter from either the MacBook Pro or the Macbook Air – WRONG! There is not a connector compatible.

It seems to me that if you spend $800.00 on a computer that it would have an adapter for a monitor.

    Not so with the Mini…
